The brand new Warm Audio WA-14ST stereo matched pair of WA-14 studio condenser microphones are now shipping in the UK. This is an exclusive matching service provided by Nova Distribution here in the UK.
Based on the classic condenser microphone from the 70’s that has been used on countless hit records. The WA-14 utilises fully discrete classic circuit topology, including an all-brass CK12 style capsule design by “Lens Kondensator” and a custom premium CineMag USA transformer. The WA-14 can be used on an array of sources, which includes: punchy and warm intimate lead vocals, aggressive guitars and heavy percussion. The WA-14 provides a realism and thickness that is true to the vintage sonics, but now at an affordable price of £499 including VAT for a single microphone and £1069 for a stereo matched pair.
The WA-14ST includes 2 x WA-14 microphones that have been selected together as a matched pair with a tolerance of 0.5 dBu or less. Frequency Response Curves are provided for each microphone which have been produced in a controlled environment from a large pool of WA-14 microphones within that particular production batch to ensure consistency across the 2 microphones. A swept test tone is fed into the microphone and a real world response chart is generated for each serial number which are then matched to corresponding WA-14’s offering the same response curve to within 0.5dBu or less. A stereo matched pair of WA-14’s will offer multiple stereo recording options with the selectable polar patterns on offer including XY, spaced pair and M/S stereo configurations and will minimise phase cancellations and provide accurate gain control across the matched pair.
All-brass Capsule Created by Warm
The LK12-B-60v is an all-brass, edge-terminated capsule that captures all the smoothness, rich top end, and other sonic qualities of the original CK-12 capsule. Using the backplate of the more modern CEK-12 variant as a basis, this capsule overcomes many of the manufacturing limitations of the original hand-made capsule which made it prohibitively complex and difficult to manufacture consistently or in high numbers. The o-ring and housing are all made from brass (no teflon parts), and the capsule diaphragm is 24k gold sputtered and skinned using 6 micron, NOS Japanese PET film (mylar). The result is a very consistent, reliable capsule which matches the frequency response and tonality of the classic.
